Eligible Bachelor Paradox

April 12, 2008

I read an interesting article by Mark Gimein about how the economics and game theory explain the shortage of eligible bachelors in today’s society.

The rationale is, imagine a match making system of grade A men, grade B men, grade A women and grade B women.

Grade B women think that they will lose to grade A women, so they bid aggressively on grade A men. Grade A women tend to be more choosy and wanna wait for grade A+ men. So that leaves all the grade B men to grade A women, which explains the lack of grade A men.
